Building a Model

You will be doing most of your work in Simgua's main window. This window is split into four areas. At the top of the window is a toolbar that has a button to run your model and buttons allowing you to select Primitives and Components to add to your model. Below the toolbar, is a large model viewer area that displays the current layout of the model using friendly graphics. To the left of the model viewer is the model library or browser that displays the current hierarchical layout of your model. Here you can move different primitives around and organize them in folders. On the right side of the screen are the configuration panels that allow your to configure the properties of the different primitives in your model. Just select the primitive you wish to edit using the library or the model viewer and then configure its function or style using the panels.

Primitives may be created by selecting the “Primitives” toolbar folder in the main toolbar. They can also be created using shortcut keys to speed rapid model development. As you add primitives to your model, Simgua will dynamically restructure the graphical layout of your model using industrial-strength algorithms originally developed at AT&T. This frees you from having to make tough layout decisions yourself and allows the entire layout to be reconfigured instantly if you make a fundamental change to your model design.

Two example layouts generated by Simgua. They are identical except the right model has one additional link Between Predator Birth Rate and Predator Births
